FAQs

User Manual
What do l need to complete my off-grid solar power system?

A solar panel has to be connected a charge controller to requlate current, and a battery to store the electricalpower. You will need adapter kit cables to wire the solar panel(s) and charge controller, and tray cablesconnecting the charge controller to a deep-cycle battery.

What does off-grid and on-grid mean?

On-grid simply means solar power equipment (array or solar panel) is connected to the electrical grid, while off.grid refers to systems that are not connected to the grid and therefore store the generated power for later useOff-grid systems are not affected by grid blackouts.

How should l connect solar panels in my electrical circuit (series vs parallel) ?

Solar panels can be connected in series or in parael to meet your electrical circuit size and power demand. Connecting solar panels inseries willhave the effect of adding up their operating voltage output, while system current output will be the same as that for one panel. While, connecting solar panels in parallel willhave a diferent effect;individual panels operating curent output will add up to be the systemoutput current, while system output voltage will be the same as the output voltage of one solar panel. To meet the optimum power outputand system rating for your power system, you can use both parallel and series connections.

What does the 12V/24V in the product title of the solar panel mean? Why is it different from the value on the label/specifcationsheet of the solar panel?

The 12V/24v in product titles (ex. 150w 12v clGs Solar panel) does not refer to the actual voltage (Voc or vmp) ofthe solar panels, but ratherto the voltage ofthe solar system or energy storage system to which the panel is best suited. The voltage ofthe solar panel must be highei
than the solar system voltage.

Perfect

I basically cut the gator clamps off and added 3/8 post rings to the wiring, wired it to the battery and plugged the solar panel into quick connect that comes with it. Under direct sun, I’m getting about 4.9 amp charge. This is all displayed on the controller. So easy and after installing some usb and dc outlets, barely run the generator anymore. Now during the day, I can plug the tv into the little 150w inverter and run the tv off the batteries too! Very glad I bought this. The suitcase style is very easy to store.

Easy To Use

This product is perfect for my needs. I usually books sites that have electric but sometimes need to boondock/dry camp. The case for the panel is very well designed. I can toss it in the RV or the back of my SUV when I need it. The unit did not come with printed instructions so I downloaded them onto my cell phone while at a state park. Reading them on the cell phone was not easy so I plugged the panel kit into the Solar On-the-side connector on my RV. It turns out, the unit is plug-and-play as it detected the type of battery I had and started charging. I called Tech Support to find the serial number on the panel and since I bought it from Amazon, I gave them the order number and they registered it for me. I am very pleased.

This is a high quality unit

Very well constructed unit, has everything you need to charge directly to a battery of solar generator. Protective case is way nicer than I expected. Had an initial problem with controller led lights not coming on due to a bad adapter, my bad, I used to connect to Grand Design direct trailer solar inlet. Reminder: ACOPOWER charge controller would not show any lights and won’t have current going through until it connects to a proper voltage battery. In this way, it has polarity protection for RV battery and devices and it ensures 100% safety in case of’ touching both positive and negative terminal. The tragedy of shock and injury won’t happen in ACOPOWER products. With some correspondence via email I was able to make it work flawlessly. Be patient it will work.

So easy to setup and use

So easy to setup and use. Just took it out of the protective case and opened it up , pulled out the adjustable legs, clipped on the to the battery. Was able to run a TV and DVR (with an inverter) in my RV all day and the batteries remained fully charged. No need to worry about where you park with these potable solar panels, because you can move them where you need. Well built and engineered. Just received the Furrion cable adapter I acquired from ACOPower that connects to the external solar connector on my RV. Makes it much easier to connect to my RV. Nice to have both connection options.

Very well made!

UPDATE! Had a problem where unit did not appear to be charging marine battery, no LEDs lit in full sun, etc. Contacted ACOPOWER, and they asked me to test with my car battery. It worked, so tried again with marine battery, and it worked! Obviously, i had a connection problem the first time around. IMPORTANT NOTE: on this charge controller (Landstar B), NO LEDs will light until the controller is properly connected to a working battery. This solar kit is impressively well-made. The panels fold into a suitcase that is solid and secure. Wiring is first class and uses quality materials. The included cover is fabric but quite rigid, and should protect the unit very well. The unit performs wonderfully. It kept a trailer using radio, fans, lights, pump, etc running and the batteries in perfect shape over three days of testing. I kept close track of the battery voltage day and night, and believe that at least in summer this unit would provide us enough juice to never require plugging in. The charge controller is smart, and provides full battery maintenance functions of any modern charger/converter.Instructions are OK once you find the right place from which to download them. The sheet included with the charge controller was dense and difficult to understand at first, but effort to do so is rewarded. I didn't realize that to modify the battery type or monitor performance on the charge controller, a separate piece (EPEVER MT-50) is needed. I ordered one, but was able to charge my flooded batteries just fine using the default sealed parameters. Note that the same functions provided by the MT-50 are supposedly provided by an app downloadable from EPEVER, but you'll still need to purchase an adapter cable from the charge controller to phone, and reviews of the app were not encouraging, so the MT-50 seemed like the simplest way to go.I'm confident that a non-techie user would have little trouble making this solar kit work for them, because all that's really required is to point the panels at the sun, hook the clamps to the correct battery posts, look at the LEDs on the controller to make sure it's doing what it's supposed to, and forget it!
